Economic Growth

Glad to see a little discussion about the distribution of wealth, which is often forgotten by those who focus on "a great, growing econonmy." An extreme example highlights this point....

Imagine if everyone in the US was dirt poor, and one person had massive wealth. The "US economy" would be represented that one person's wealth. If that one person's wealth grew by 10% over a year, and everyone else remained dirt poor, the business pages would report that the "US economy grew by 10% this year." Clearly, that statement doesn't equate to what most people would consider to be a "healthy" economy.
