in terms of the potential for a hunger strike to change things, the last big win for a social justice movement in baltimore - the united workers winning a living wage for the cleaners at camden yards - was actually accomplished through a multi-year campaign that was to culminate in a hunger strike. the threat of the hunger strike, combined with all the other pressure the uwa had put on the stadium, was eventually enough to make them cave in and pay the cleaners a fair wage.
