Re: Citizens Launch Group To Halt Nuclear Reactor On Chesapeake Bay
Date Edited: 21 Jul 2009 08:41:33 AM
Since the cooling system is separated from the reactor, the water vapor coming out the towers is not radioactive, compared to background radiation.
Is water a green house gas? I think not...
Wouldn't the increases flow of water for the cooling tower and its subsequent return help aerate the water, lessening the severity of the oxygen deprived zone of the Chesapeake?
If we are truly concerned about the Chesapeake, go after fertilizers...
"Bomb grade Plutonium Oxide," really??? Although the EPR can use MOX, I doubt it's using anything over 6% fissile, at the most. Bomb grade is >93%.
While the EPR is a new design, calling it an experiment is a misnomer. They won't really be learning anything from it, just making electricity.
Are there any sources for the following statement? "The Bay’s fragile ecosystem already can not take the eleven reactors we’ve already got!"
Every time a nuclear reactor is going to be built, a small, albeit fierce, group of people ban together against it. Hopefully the utility that wants to build this EPR runs a better PR campaign than this PAARC's scare campaign.
