why is the Media Gallery not showing on the front page?

Does the webmaster of Baltimore IMC (Spud) dislike the ideas expressed in the Media Gallery lately? Is that why he has decided what images (if any) appear on Baltimore IMC's home page?

I seem to recall that Indymedia was about free speech and a passion for preserving same. At least, at every large protest in the US for the last fifteen years Indymedia has been ubiquitous, touting its support for speech.

So, who turned off the Media Gallery images and why?

You're still an idiot

Listen Scott, this is getting tiring. Stop seeing conspiracies everywhere, and try asking simple questions (which have already been answered elsewhere) instead. That's how you get to the truth, not by wildly speculating.

The Media Gallery module box in the corner of the home page displays a random image selected from a list of files uploaded to the Media Gallery in the past 7 days. Images uploaded with articles and features are NOT displayed in the Media Gallery, which was designed for images, PDFs, and audio/video files that stand on their own (flyers, photos of protests, audio interviews, documentary videos, etc).

Your "Martin O'Malley's Irish Roots..." photo is a perfect example of what DOES NOT belong in the Media Gallery. The image itself is pointless without any context, and doesn't merit inclusion in the gallery. You appear to be using it simply to link to your blog posting, which is a fundamental abuse of the gallery.

Re: You're still an idiot

Thanks for all your hard work Spud. Those of us who have a clue understand what you're saying, apparently, some others don't.

no response yet?

I asked simple questions: Who turned off the Media Gallery (from the front page) and why?

So far only spam has been posted in response.

I'd like to know:

1. does the Baltimore IMC webmaster believe in free speech? If so, why is he assuming dictatorial control by turning the Media Gallery on and off as it suits him?

2. Is the Baltimore IMC webmaster working for Homeland Security? For an intelligence agency?

3. Is Indymedia just a monstrous fraud and betrayal, an intelligence operation with the intention of tricking millions of people into falsely believing the website promotes free speech?

thanks,

Spud, where's the response?

Apparently the "hard work" that chthonik is praising is censorship, as Spud the Sniveling Jackboot Censor Boy managed to remove my rebuttal to his lies (entitled "you're still an idiot"; this is Spud's limit of intellectual discourse).

Can't you two play Concentration Camp Guard at home? It is a pity that Spud feels compelled to live out his Fascist fantasies out in public, particularly on a website that supposedly supports free speech.

You don't have proof of anything, twit.

Sheesh, how many times must I warn you about making suppositions, and totally failing to understand the way the Baltimore IMC software works?

This is where your response is.

1) Your response has been hidden, since it was rated down by users to be below the threshold of viewable comments. It apparently joined the legions of other unworthy comments.

First of all, notice that Spud stuck his reply after my initial post. That's not exactly following the flow of the conversation, which is precisely what I've accused him of doing regarding the Media Gallery.

2) I posted a comment in reply to your post, and that comment appears just below the post. How does that not follow the flow of conversation? I really fail to understand your point here.

Again, Spud lies. Spud turned off the image of the tennis fan holding the 911 sign two days after it appeared in the Media Gallery:
baltimore.indymedia.org/media/all/display/6345/index.php

3) Yeah, and if you look at that page carefully, the image was posted on April 3, and you documented its "removal" on April 12. That's…um…9 days after it was posted. Since the Media Gallery module displays images posted in the past 7 days, the image had essentially exceeded that threshold. Or is math not your strong suit?

Spud also writes: "Your 'Martin O'Malley()'s Irish Roots…' photo is a perfect example of what DOES NOT belong in the Media Gallery. The image itself is pointless without any context…" Wait a second! I provided the context. There's a link attached to the image referring to the context.

4) That's not "context". That's a link to your blog entry. You were simply using the Media Gallery as a cheap link to your blog, which is not what the media gallery was designed for, as I pointed out earlier. Nonetheless, I didn't "remove" or "turn off" the image at all. Bear in mind, AS HAS BEEN REPEATED ENDLESSLY, that the image displayed on the home page module box is completely automated, and I don't EVER "turn it off" when it suits me or anyone else.

Unfortunately, Baltimore IMC is the ONLY "Indymedia" website that I can post my news blog on. People like Spud are making that possible.

5) Wow, that must be a little humiliating that someone you seem to hold in such little regard is nonetheless the only person who allows you to publish crap. I don't think that's what you meant to say, but still, it's true.

6) Just for the record, if your posts continue to consist of flame-bait and ad hominem attacks against me personally, they aren't going to last long here, either.
