Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

This Wednesday Dec 19, 7PM @ 2640 (2640 St. Paul St.) Kids on the Hill and the Indypendent Reader are co-sponsoring an event that was recently snowed-out. The evening will benefit the up-coming Civil Rights Trip, a sojourn for youth leaders from Baltimore City. This six day road trip includes meetings with civil rights leaders and visits to Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis, Montgomery, Selma and Little Rock to engage and educate young people about civil rights and social change history first-hand. Youth leaders journal throughout the trip, and video tape their experiences to engage other young people on the trip and upon their return to Baltimore.

Kids on the Hill (KOH) is an art and media project for youth in Baltimore. For eleven years the Reservoir Hill based project has offered young people a safe place to confront the injustices and inequalities they face in their schools and communities everyday. The KOH youth-centered pedagogy is driven by a commitment to experimental academics, art action for social change, and civic engagement.

This Wednesday Dec 19, 7PM @ 2640 (2640 St. Paul St.) KOH and the Indypendent Reader are co-sponsoring an event that was recently snowed-out. Recently young people at KOH have been working on projects centered around three themes—Police and Youth, Sexuality and Relationships, and Food and Nutrition. Wednesday's audience will have the opportunity to view student videos that take a closer look at these themes. "The night's menu includes films about the pressures kids face to join gangs, the fine line between flirting and sexual harrassment, and a face-off between Team Chittlins and Broccoli. Laughter that nourishes the spirit and mind, media-savvy teens and food for thought will be in full supply."

So, come out and meet Kids on the Hill. Support the effort to make Baltimore's young voices heard and included in decision making processes that effect their city.

Tickets are $10, and are available at Red Emma's Bookshop or by reserving a ticket at (410) 383-7200 x 1. Wednesday Dec 19, 7PM @ 2640 (2640 St. Paul St.

Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

What injustices and inequality do these young people face? List a few, lets see what they are. It seems that there is racism in this article. Why would you call a team of black youths chittlins? How fucking racist you piece of shit.

Re: Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

Why do you, as an anonymous internet troll, feel these young citizens need to make themselves accountable to you. What a coward.

Hope to see everyone at the event.

Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

So Josh rushes in and arrogantly declares "Why do you, as an anonymous internet troll, feel these young citizens need to make themselves accountable to you. What a coward."

Thank You for the typical liberal/progressive response. Attack someone and call them a troll, but of course Josh didn't answer the question because he can't. And yes, they have to justify themselves to be taken seriously. So piss off Josh, you gullible little ass wipe.

Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

hey humm…the author of the article here didn't make up the team's name, and, having not seen the film that the quote from the announcement written and sent by Kids on the Hill about their own event refers to, i have no idea what exactly "Team Chittlin" is - although I suspect it has quite a bit to do with "Food and Nutrition". Stop trolling and start reading more carefully.

Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

Well ok, as long as they are stump whooped chitlins we will be ok. Still don't know what injustices and inequality these kids face, unless it is that they are living in a progressive armpit of the US.

Re: Kids on the Hill TV Dinner, THAWED OUT!

I am unsure why such rancor would erupt from someone regarding an event that celebrates youth media and young people endeavoring to effect positive change in their communities. I invite humm to visit us at Kids on the Hill and have a conversation with our young people if he would like to learn more about their lives and the challenges the face. There is so much divisivness already. Why add to it?

Re: Correction

The term being referred to appears in a quote, though the quote is not attributed to a person or brochure. This means that the article did not refer to anyone as "Team Chittlins," as the original poster contends. Rather there must be some game in which there are two teams, one called Team "Broccoli" also.
People reading articles need to slow down and read more closely, even when an article sets off raw emotions.
Sounds like a good cause, actually.
