Censorship
Censorship is becoming the rule and not the exception at
Indymedia (IMC), the network of
websites which touts itself as “Independent Media”. If you have an
alternative
view
of what really hit the South Tower on 9/11/01 you can expect to have your article
marooned from New York’s IMC home page within
ten minutes. If you question the veracity of the 911 video
the TV networks aired NYC IMC will
remove your
commentary shortly afterwards. If you post proof of New York IMC’s censorship at
Portland’s IMC or the Twin Cities IMC they will
swiftly maroon this commentary as well.
In Baltimore, the IMC committee is constantly hiding news and commentary in an
apparent effort to limit the site’s effectiveness as a news resource. Hidden material
does not appear when users perform searches. So, if you object to the
support that Amy Goodman and
Democracy Now
actually gives to power Baltimore IMC will ruthlessly take steps to prevent
other people from discovering your views.
Features
To this author’s knowledge the Baltimore IMC editorial committee has not featured one
commentary in the last four years which articulately criticizes the propaganda of
the State. During this period many articles have been featured which support
State propaganda, particularly with regards to the official story of 9/11.
In addition, Baltimore’s IMC updates its features section at a glacial pace. At
this writing Baltimore IMC has featured only a dozen new commentaries in the last
three months. (Two of these commentaries are
part one and
part two of the same article. By the way, Portland’s IMC has
featured over a hundred commentaries in the same span.)
A typical commentary featured by Baltimore IMC is Chuck Michaels’s virtually
unreadable “The Guantanamo Maze”. Michaels declares in the
first part of his series that he will describe how the situation in
Guantanamo Bay came about. He does so in one disinterested sentence: “The
[Executive Order authorizing the Guantanamo Bay concentration camps] was among
various actions by President Bush immediately following the September 11 attacks.” In
other words, Michaels accepts the official story of 911 and wants you to do so
also. (True to form Baltimore IMC is hiding my three critical comments to
Chuck Michaels’s commentary.)
Another featured commentary is Howard Ehrlich’s shallow and
self-indulgent
first installment of an ongoing report that he apparently intends
to produce regularly. In it Ehrlich defines personality types (carefully omitting
the type of “infiltrator”). For fifteen days this particular article was
tyrannically kept at the top of the features section despite having no user
comments suggesting any interest in what Ehrlich is saying.
Local Interest
All sorts of commentaries are permitted in the local interest section which have
nothing to do with local writers or concerns. While I have personally had
material removed from this section that I believed qualified every day new
material is kept in this section with no relevance to Baltimore.
Recently I posted a commentary indicating that I had been
banned (without a word of explanation) from the
NoWarBaltimore Yahoo group. Among the “Local Interest” commentary which was
permitted to gradually push this article off the Baltimore IMC home page
was a
press release by University of Colorado professor (and South
Dakota native) Ward Churchill, a
defense of Churchill and a
general commentary concerning Hydrogen as an energy source.
Baltimore IMC meetings
For those who ask “why don’t you join the Baltimore IMC collective instead of
griping about it” I would like to say that I tried. The IMC meetings I attended
were marathon sessions, frequently lasting three hours or more. Ehrlich is
particularly skilled at lengthening and introducing tedium into the IMC general
meetings. I stopped participating with Baltimore IMC when I realized their
decisions are made always in secret and with no transparency.
Conclusion
Baltimore IMC’s editorial committee appears to be deliberately keeping the site
dull and indoctrinated in an effort to steer traffic to Portland’s IMC, where
censorship is swiftly practiced. In addition, Baltimore IMC is extremely
disciplined and features only articles which reiterate the propaganda of the
State, when they refer to current events at all. Finally, the editorial
committee reveals its contempt for independent media by hiding articles,
reader comments and news blog entries that challenge propaganda (or
the phony progressive media).
Indymedia is a
Trojan Horse for activists. It appears to be a public resource
that promotes independent media. However, in reality it behaves like a
network of intelligence centers which are all directed from Homeland Security.

Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Second, only ONE of your "partial list of articles hidden" appears to be hidden. And that one is a repost from another web site, which violates our policy. If you want to read the article, read it at the original site. As for the rest of them, they aren't even hidden, so you're just plain wrong on that count. Not to mention the fact that your "News Junkie Blog" posts aren't even close to articles...this isn't supposed to be a "post anything" site, nor an advertisement for any individual's blogs. There are plenty of other locations better suited to that.
Third, ...oh, never mind. You're tiresome. And bear in mind that, for the most part, IMCs act completely autonomously, so if several IMCs are getting rid of your material, it's more likely that they all think it's crap than that there's a conspiracy or collusion with the CIA.
replies to Spud
All of the articles were found in the "hidden articles" list. Meanwhile, there is still no credible explanation for why the "Democracy Now propaganda" article is hidden. Since this commentary was FIRST published on Baltimore IMC that incredibly lame "reprint from another website" excuse is meaningless.
"...so you're just plain wrong on that count..."
Sure. LOL.
"Not to mention the fact that your 'News Junkie Blog' posts aren't even close to articles...this isn't supposed to be a 'post anything' site..."
This is Independent Media. That means it is as much my media as it is the Cabal's that has taken over Baltimore IMC. If the news blog is newsworthy and relevant it should be left alone.
The other side of this coin is why is Baltimore IMC quietly hiding material? Why sneak around and censor material if you represent Independent Media?
"Third, ...oh, never mind. You're tiresome."
Stop censoring material and you won't be so tired.
"And bear in mind that, for the most part, IMCs act completely autonomously, so if several IMCs are getting rid of your material, it's more likely that they all think it's crap than that there's a conspiracy or collusion with the CIA."
Sure, Spud. I can have commentary removed from New York's IMC in TEN MINUTES. I can have commentary never appear on Portland's IMC, or it is removed within a half hour. I can post material on Baltimore IMC and watch it get slowly get hidden.
That's because Indymedia is Independent Media. Right. haha.
You forgot this one
Baltimore IMC's work is never done
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Everything you always talk about has to do with one type of conspiracy or another. I believe their is some type of mental disorder associated along those lines. It's 9-11, then its the Moon Conspiracy, then its people conspiring to silence you, then its Amy Goodman and Democracy now working for the government, and now its this? I mean, come on Scott.
As someone who has worked with you in the past, rode in critical mass with you, was in a book club with you, and respects you I ask you to please chill out a bit. Level yourself in reality for a second and get your head out of the conspiracy theory clouds. I mean, ya not everything is a conspiracy theory that goes against mainstream though, but EVERYTHING you bring up has to do with a conspiracy theory, maybe that is saying something.
matt
hey Matt
Serving up a blanket dismissal of what I argue without any points in rebuttal is very...Republican.
Cheers.
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Shit?
Re: Is Indymedia a complete waste of time
It seems every time some one sends me a link to something on indy media, its a goofy story that got little to do with anything.
Society has real problems; it's too bad so many waste their time posting all this crap on the internet- and now I'm doing it.
Yepper
Right!
There is nothing controversial about the documentation I've provided proving IMC censorship. Are you a defender of censorship, 'Anonymous'?
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Even if Indymedia was infiltrated by Homeland Security, I doubt they would know the first thing to do in it.
I don't live in fear. I don't peddle fear, and am quickly suspicious of those that do.
You should simply diversify priorities. We can sure use someone of your energy to support a Third Party Governor's candidate, along with any other progressive candidate that might run.
I got a good conspiracy: let's plot the defeat of those politicians who take money from union-busting, cheap labor exploiting corporations and corner-cutting HMO's, and work toward the election of those who care about the people.
From one "Paddy" to another, let's drop this "Homeland Security" conspiracy stuff, and let's talk "bread and butter" issues, eh?
Respectfully,
James

James, you're speaking to me with contempt. You imply that I am "peddl[ing] fear" and state I should "diversify priorities". Well, explain what is so wrong with documentating censorship on what is essentially public resource. Only when you've explained this to people will they understand why you regard this topic with such derision.
You certainly sound like you live in fear to me. At the very least you certainly offer tacit support for censorship.
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Interpret my remarks as you will. Mere disagreement with you is sufficient to for you to make groundless accusations. And, tell me again, you are a journalist?
Your apparent preoccupation with this subject is taking precious time from issues that are clearly (even to those less educated)a higher priority that about who is censoring material on conspiracy theory.
And, about fear? There is nothing you can tell me about it. I told you what I do for a living. But go ahead, and spin wheels in your theories. People need Living Wage, Universal Health Care, and Fair Taxation, and all you can do is insult people who disagree with you???
There are folks who want to work with you, but you are making it difficult with your preoccupation about conspiracies and censorship.
Well, I am going to go now, and help my progressive friends elect folks to the State House, and maybe even Congress or the Govenor's office.
Feel free to join me anytime you like, eh?
James
Being beaten up by James
Again James, I invite you to explain why I should shut up and do the activities that you recommend. You are so full of contempt that you feel no reason to explain why you demand silence on the subject of whether a public resource has been taken over by the Central Intelligence Agency.
Decidedly not "laying the smack down."
"Being beaten up by James"--droll, very droll.
Look, if disagreements constitute beating someone up, then we got battle royals going on all over the freaking progressive list-serves--ssshhheeeessshhh!!!
Just a slight change in tactics is all I am asking. You don't want to do it, fine, your choice. More than this, I can not be any clearer.
(Searches office for bandages and iodine.) ;)
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
I disagree with you because you don't have the documents or the goods to back up your theories. As of now, you and all other 911 conspiracists, have no access. End of story.
When and if you have the fucking documents from those involved in the conspiracy, maybe we will take you seriously. Otherwise, all you Americans are racist fucks for refusing to consider that a handful of people in a poor country, can pull off dramatic results, with asymmetrical warfare.
Re: talk is cheap
remaining unconvinced
What part of the ludicrous official story of 9/11 makes sense to anyone?
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
Bob Feldman has also done a fairly comprehensive analysis of the "left-gatekeepers", their role in the history of FBI/CIA Cointelpro tactics, and the manner in which the left has been prostituted by corporate/government foundation (eg.Ford Foundation) funding. Of course it is disappointing to see the gutlessness and dishonesty of some Indymedia sites when it comes to admitting that 9/11 was an inside job. But many of the Indymedia hacks who parrot the Bush administration lies about 9/11 are simply "useful idiots", who never had any real interest in exposing and resisting ruling-class crimes and atrocities anyway. Ehrlich is a good example of a long-time "useful idiot". They have insured that the "left" in Baltimore would be irrelevant and impotent in local politics since well back in the 1970s. I think, in a general sense, the American left has a swamp of snitches, disinfo agents and craven opportunists for a long time. It's something we are all going to face up to and deal with when the time is ripe. In the meantime, let's focus on those elements of society that are open-minded and receptive to the truth about 9/11.
After all, nobody pays much attention to the foundation-controlled left anyway.
Re: Is Indymedia Infiltrated by Homeland Security?
The angry, bitter left all know for a fact that Bush’s war for oil in Iraq is illegal. By speaking out on Internet chat boards and using the façade of communist/socialist groups like A.N.S.W.E.R. and MoveOn.org, the really cool progressives are becoming a powerful force on the Internet chat boards.
The Internet also allows us really cool progressives to question authority. Really cool progressives like me and the Web Fairy question authority and have intellectual discussion on the fact that it was squib charges and holograms used on 9/11, not the propaganda put out by the corporate controlled media of 19 hijackers and jet airplanes.
I am somewhat of an expert on 9/11. I can look at a 72 dpi image on a really cool progressive Web site and tell you more than any aerospace or civil engineer what really happened.
There's a lot more going on in the 9/11 cover-up than meets the eye. People who buy every word that the corporate-controlled media says should go buy George Orwell's 1984 and practice up; it won't be long before the hopelessly indoctrinated manage to get the clocks to thirteen here. Peace. – Scott Laughrey
